Bianque, whose original name is Qin Yueren, is an ancient Chinese doctor in the Warring States of China at the beginning of the 4th century BC. Bianque is famous for his brilliant medical knowledge and kind heart. He had cured many diseases of common people, so he was conferred as "Bianque", which is the name of a legendary well-known doctor in ancient times.People who are interested in Chinese Medicine may hears of the Four Diagnostic Methods, namely looking, listening, asking and pulse-feeling (“Looking” means looking at observing the appearance complexion and tongue fur, “listening” refers to listening to the sound of the patient's speech and breath, “asking” refers to asking about the patient's condition, and “pulse-feeling” is just in the literal meaning.). It is summarized by Bianque and based on the experience of predecessors he found.
The diagnostic methods lay a foundation for the diagnoses of traditional Chinese Medicine. BIanque was skillful in observing the complexion countenance of the patient to diagnose disease and estimate the disease evolvement. The story of "Bianque met King Caihuan" was about Bianque's accurate diagnosis on .King Caihuan by observing his face. According to Shi Ji (Historical Records) Bianque is acclaimed to be the first doctor to apply the clinical-pluse-diagnosis to clinic. Meanwhile, he was appreciated to be the exponent of the sphygmology in Traditional Chinese Medicine. According to "Bibliographic Treatise, Chronicles of the Han Dynasty", Bianque has two works: Internal Canon of Medicine and External Canon of Medicine, but both of them had been lost.
Bianque once traveled all the kingdom to cure diseases for people, rich and poor. In order to commemorate Bianque, people have built numerous magnificent temples. If you come to China, you will find some temples of Bianque are still kept well. These relics show people’s reverence to Bianque's contribution to Traditional Chinese Medicine.
