What Does High Creatinine Level Mean

Creatinine is the by-product of muscle metabolism and its level is relatively stable due to the steady total amount of one’s muscle. Although the weight of people is different from one to one, there is a roughly standard of the normal creatinine level.
The normal creatinine level
It is considered normal to see creatinine level in blood is between 0.6 to 1.2 mg/dl for adult male and 0.5 to 1.1 mg/dl for female. Muscular people and middle-aged people are usually to have a slight higher level than the ordinary people. However, elderly people trend to have a little lower creatinine level because of their change of physical conditions. Infants are likely to have 2.0 or more levels depending on their growth. All these cause are normal and no special attention should be paid. Once creatinine is far higher than normal levels that mean high creatinine happens.
What does high creatinine level mean
Kidneys are responsible for the excretion of toxins and wastes in blood. When produced, creatinine flows through kidneys where it is discarded out the body. Besides, since kidneys neither secrete nor reabsorb creatinine, it is reliable to know how well the kidneys are functioning by creatinine level.
High creatinine level may be caused by many ways, but the dysfunction of your kidneys plays an important part. If your high creatinine level is caused by the other causes, the creatinine level will get down for a period, otherwise, high creatinine level is an indicator of abnormal functioning kidneys.
